The honest detail on money, transfers, beds, the Ha Giang Loop, support and refunds for TGC 31 - 31 days across Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Boz and Ru, better known as The Scruff Brothers, are UK-based content creators sharing their passion for adventure, travel and everyday life. From backpacking in Kenya to exploring Southeast Asia, their content brings people along through genuine experiences, brotherly banter and discovering new places.
The Scruff Takeover runs 5–7 Dec at Mad Monkey Hoi An.
- ✦Live DJ set with Scruff: The Scruff Brothers take over the decks at Mad Monkey Hoi An for a live DJ set.
- ✦Scruff Brothers pub crawl: Straight after the set, Boz and Ru lead the crew on the Scruff Brothers pub crawl, well into the evening.
TGC 31 · The Full Collective is the full month from Bangkok (16 Nov – 16 Dec 2026, £1,995). TGC 20 · The Scruff Takeover starts in Hanoi (27 Nov – 16 Dec 2026, £1,350): 20 days, 19 nights, the Ha Giang Loop, the Scruff Takeover in Hoi An and the festival.
You're not joining a different trip. You're joining the same crew, on the same route, for the biggest part of it.
You arrive in Hanoi on Fri 27 Nov, the same day the TGC 31 group flies in, and meet the crew at Mad Monkey Hanoi. Crews are assigned the next night at the Ha Giang Departure Party, and you stay with the same crew to the end.
Yes. TGC 20 includes The Collective Festival on Koh Sdach, Afterglow, and the Scruff Brothers live on The Jungle stage on Tue 15 Dec.
The £1,995 covers your place on the 31 day expedition: all accommodation across Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, all internal travel on the route, the Gap Collective event programme (pool parties, beach clubs, the Scruff Brothers Takeover in Hoi An and the Koh Sdach festival), the four day Ha Giang Loop with Easy Riders, and full time crew with you from day one to day thirty one.
- ✦Not included: international flights to Bangkok and home from Cambodia, visas, travel insurance
- ✦Not included: food and drink outside listed inclusions, personal spending and optional activities
- ✦Realistic personal budget: roughly £700 to £1,100 for the month, depending on how much you drink, shop and add optional extras
- ✦Most travellers land in the middle of that at around £25 to £30 a day
Yes. Every movement on the published itinerary is arranged and paid for by us, including the border crossings and internal flights between Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, plus sleeper buses, trains, private coaches and boat transfers.
You only need to get yourself to the start point (Bangkok for TGC 31, Hanoi on 27 Nov for TGC 20) and home from Cambodia at the end. If you want to arrive early or stay on afterwards, we can point you at the right hostels but those nights and transfers are on you.
The route is anchored by our partnership with Mad Monkey, plus a handful of hand picked boutique hostels and beach properties where Mad Monkey doesn't operate.
- ✦Standard is a mixed dorm, typically 6 to 8 beds, air conditioned with lockers and en suite bathrooms
- ✦Female only dorms are available at most stops. Ask when you book and we will hold one for you
- ✦Private twin and double rooms are available as a paid upgrade at most properties, subject to availability
- ✦Some nights are different by design: homestays on the Ha Giang Loop, a sleeper bus, and beach bungalows on Koh Sdach
Anything listed on the itinerary as a Collective event or headline experience is included in the price. That covers the pool parties, beach club days, the Scruff Brothers Takeover in Hoi An, the Ha Giang Loop, the Koh Sdach festival and Afterglow, plus the walking tours and boat days written into the route.
- ✦Included: all headline events, festival entry, the Loop, listed tours and boat trips
- ✦Optional extras: scuba certification, bungee and canyoning style adrenaline add ons, spa days, tattoo sessions, extra island hopping
- ✦Optional extras are booked and paid locally, usually £15 to £120 depending on the activity
- ✦Nothing optional is compulsory. Free days are genuinely free - that's the freedom half of guided travel with freedom
The Loop is four days and three nights, and it is included. You ride pillion behind a vetted Easy Rider - a professional local driver who knows every metre of the route - so you do not need a motorbike licence and you are not responsible for the bike.
Helmets, fuel, homestays, meals on the Loop and luggage transport are all covered. Your main bag travels ahead in the support vehicle while you ride with a day pack.
- ✦Want to self ride? Only with a valid full motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit with the A category, and insurance that explicitly covers it. We will ask to see all three
- ✦Not into bikes at all? There is a support car seat for the whole Loop at no extra cost - same route, same homestays, same views
- ✦You can also skip the Loop entirely and stay in Hanoi. We will sort your accommodation, though the cost isn't refundable
- ✦Check your policy covers riding as a passenger on a motorbike. Many standard policies exclude it
Gap Collective crew travel with the group for the entire 31 days. They are on the same buses, in the same hostels and at every event, not managing from an office in the UK.
You get a 24/7 emergency number at your pre departure briefing, a WhatsApp group for the whole trip, and local partner contacts in each city. Crew are first aid trained and carry a group medical kit.
For anything serious we coordinate directly with hospitals, your insurer and, if you want us to, your family back home.
Weather, permits and local conditions occasionally force our hand, especially with beach and island events. If something has to change we will always try to substitute an experience of comparable value first, and we will tell you as early as we can.
If we make a significant change before departure - a major change to the route, the festival, or the dates - you can accept it, take an alternative trip, or cancel for a full refund.
If a headline element is cancelled once you are on the trip and we cannot provide a reasonable alternative, you receive a refund of the value of that element. Full detail is in our Terms & Conditions.
Your place is secured when booked and paid in full, unfortunately due to the nature of this tour we are unable to facilitate cancellations and refunds.
Places are transferable. If you can no longer travel you can pass your spot to someone else who meets the booking conditions, as long as you give us reasonable notice and cover any supplier admin fees.
If your reason for cancelling is covered by your travel insurance - illness, injury, family emergency - claim through your insurer, and we will provide whatever documentation they need.
Comprehensive travel insurance valid for the full 31 days and all three countries is mandatory. We will ask for your policy number before departure and you will not be able to travel without it.
- ✦Medical cover and emergency repatriation - we suggest a minimum of £2 million
- ✦Motorbike cover as a passenger, and as a rider if you plan to self ride the Loop
- ✦Water based activities: snorkelling, kayaking, boat transfers and island trips
- ✦Festival and event attendance, plus cover for cancellation, delays and personal belongings
Read the exclusions carefully. Cheap policies often quietly rule out exactly the things this trip is built around.
Most people book solo. That is the normal way to join, not the exception.
The group runs at roughly 60 to 110 travellers, with the vast majority between 18 and 25. Everyone arrives knowing nobody and leaves with a crew.
- ✦A group chat opens as soon as bookings close, so you know faces and names months out
- ✦Pre departure video calls with the crew to cover kit, budget, visas and questions
- ✦UK meet ups before departure where the numbers make sense
- ✦A first night welcome party in Bangkok built purely around introductions
STILL NOT SURE?
Ask us anything. A real person on the crew will answer, usually the same day.
